Our History
I-Gard has been committed to electrical safety and reliability since 1982. From the beginning, the approach has been to get ahead of the problem instead of reacting to it. When it comes to protecting people, that has meant building products designed to reduce the risk of injury at the source, rather than asking workers to rely on wearing more PPE to survive an incident that engineering could have prevented in the first place.
That philosophy grew into a portfolio built the same way. I-Gard manufactures both the current-limiting resistor and the ground fault relay in-house making for system components designed to work together avoiding mismatches on site. Because of the company’s commitment to safety, I-Gard became the first power resistor company in North America to be ISO 9001 certified, built the only CSA approved resistor testing facility in-house in the industry, achieved UL listing across its complete neutral grounding resistor product line, and was approved by the Government of Canada under its Controlled Goods Program for Department of Defense Applications.
Today I-Gard is the only electrical safety-focused company whose product portfolio includes neutral grounding resistors, high-resistance grounding systems, and optical arc mitigation together, spanning the full range from reducing the probability of a ground fault escalating to cutting the incident energy if one still occurs. For more than 40 years, that portfolio has supported long-standing relationships across industries as diverse as petrochemical, healthcare, data centers, pulp and paper, automotive, food processing, aerospace, water and wastewater, and telecommunications.
